YES !!! The DOS version DOES exist. I downloaded and tested it.

Well, the only one professional graph programm for DOS and one
of very few GUI progs after 1995.

However, it is not really usable by now. The VESA graphics does not
work (anything above 800*600*8bit crashes (freezer, protection/page
fault, ...). Saving PNG does not work (images are corrupt), GIF does not
work (refuses to save). BMP minimally works. Painting Huh Probably
difficult to test since very complicated, like other "professional" progs
(Adobe photosh**, Micrograx) unlike PAINT & NEOPAINT. Text does not
work - no fonts found ? Furhter, the prog is VERY slow (Huh) have no idea
why  - i banned swapping and no effect.

The DOS version was compiled with FPC 1.10 - unlike FPC 2.01 for other
versions. This is the reason for many of the problems, I guess.

Yeah DOS version is compiled using older version compiler as there is currently no maintainer for DOS version, so we probably won't see new versions of compiler in future...

It's strange if those bugs didn't appear before in older versions of Pixel as I didn't touch anything DOS related for few years now.

Regarding texttool, yeah it doesn't work and there's no way to get this texttool working in DOS yet. Maybe later I find some time and port it to DOS.

Higher resolutions are working for me, maybe you can try to find some of those VBE tools, something like that might help. Pixel works best in DOS if there's linear framebuffer available (VBE 2.0).

You should run included test program, that one will output correct number for you. Basically it's a number of graphics mode used... for example 123 might stand for 1024x768, 16bit HiColor etc.

Now there is a new DOS version of FPC (2.1.4beta) and seems to be better.

Is it the opportune moment for a new version of Pixel for DOS?  Wink

I think it would be a good idea to drop the DOS version of Pixel.

Obviously Pavel is having trouble with organizing his time for doing core Pixel development and communication. There is really no time for something like a DOS version of Pixel, which only 3 people might use.
